Jalisco en Vivo – The Biggest Show Ever
In a noble gesture a great friend of Vallarta, Alejandro Fernández, owner of a beautiful voice and a charming personality, invited twenty of his famous colleagues to Vallarta and organized what I would call the Biggest Show Ever seen by our city, and I have lived here for over thirty years.
The event’s shockwaves rumbled through time and space, as people from all over Mexico started to gather in Vallarta since days before the show, giving a welcome break to hotels, restaurants and shops that had been very quiet during the first half of the month of June.
The city started to fill with colors sprouting here and there the same way our surrounding jungle began to display an infinite array of hues of green thanking the first rains of the season.
Those very rains that washed the cobble-stone streets and colonial façades in preparation for the biggest party ever; Vallartenses and visitors alike filled the Malecón without ever hesitating over the prospect of getting wet, they filled the restaurants and bars and all spaces surrounding the stage and the giant screens facing in all directions; estimates say there were between sixty and one hundred thousand people attending the show.
There were those who came by sea, romantically combining a sunset cruise with the fiesta spirit overflowing everywhere, the stage and its spectacular lighting surrounded by constellations of lights bordering the whole bay.
I remember listening to the voices of Enrique Iglesias, Belanova, María José, Luis Fonsi, Raúl di Blasio, Joan Sebastian, Aleks Syntek and many others very dear to the public who danced and sang along, and sometimes even solo.
A few days before we hosted the Second Annual International Beach Volleyball Tournament. And the winning team was Brazil, leaving the United States in second place and Greece in third. But I think the real winners were the spectators and fans, as, being it a female tournament, it featured a great visual attraction throughout the games.
The day after the concert Vallarta held the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifier CONCACAF Puerto Vallarta 2009, in which El Salvador came out in first place, leaving the second place for Costa Rica and the third for the United States. The cup will be played in Dubai in November.
And the last weekend of June the Annual Puerto Vallarta Triathlon was held bringing men and women athletes from all over Mexico as well as foreigners, in preparation for the Guadalajara Pan American Games 2011 in which Vallarta will host four of the games’ competitions. This weekend’s triathlon included swimming, cycling and running. Email to a friend
